How does the track attach to the ceiling?
The track comes to you with a center line scored down the inside of the track. This allows you to custom drill the mounting holes without permitting the drill bit drift. The track needs a support every three feet. If you are installing over a plaster surface or drywall, use molly bolts or a great product called a Zip-It.. If you drill into a wood stud, use a wood screw right into the stud or joist. We are always available to answer your installation questions.
Can the track be installed on a suspended ceiling?
Of course. The track needs to be supported about every three feet. If that falls where the metal T bars are use a sheet metal screw through the track into the tee bar. If the support hole is needed in the ceiling tile use a molly bolt or a great product called a Zip-It. We can give you more infromation in our instruction sheet. The track has been used for years on suspended ceilings all over the country.
What about a ceiling that is not flat such as a cathedral ceiling?
A cathedral ceiling or other non flat ceiling needs to have a flat surface made to accept the track. This can be accomplished by using wood shims to level out a surface on which the track can be mounted. We have brackets available that allow the track to be mounmted from any type of ceiling. Another solution is to use metal "L" brackets available at most hardware stores to mount the track to the wall of the camera room rather than the ceiling. Call us and we can guide you along.
My ceiling are too high. What can I do?
You have several choices. The first solution is to mount the track on the ceiling and have extensions sewn onto your muslins. For instance,if you have twelve feet high ceilings you can add four feet (or however much you desire) of plain muslin to the top of the background so that the background is only eight feet off of the floor. We can supply you with the plain muslin or we can attach it to your backgrounds for you. The track can be mounted on the camera room wall, as high up as you need, and not worry about the ceiling height. The track can be mounted on threaded steel rod, wood supports, black pipe with floor flanges or aluminum tubing that is dropped from the ceiling to the height that you desire to have the track. We can supply you with the tubing and all necessary fittings to do the job. Call for pricing.
How do the backgrounds connect to the track ?
You will get a supply of carriers that travel in the track and have a hook hanging from them. If your muslins have grommets, simply hook the grommets onto the carriers. Grommet kits are available at most hardware stores if you want to install them in your muslins. If you do not want to put holes in your muslins, we can supply you with Muslin Clips that hook on to the carriers and hold your backgrounds securely. Muslin clips do not harm the muslin.
How does the ONTRAX system save space?
If you use our storage straps, a ten feet wide muslin stores in 15 to 18 inches of space. And since the straps allow you get the muslin off the floor the backgrounds stay clean and in perfect shape.
How reliable is the ONTRAX system?
The system has been in use for years in hospitals, nursing homes and clinics. We adapted it for photographers. We have systems in all 50 states and have yet to have one single problem. It will last as long as your studio stays open. No maintenance required.
