About us

Ontrax Systems is a small company owned by Ed and Diane Burns.  The company was formed after we researched the market for a way to deal with muslin backgrounds in our own studio.

Since we introduced the Ontrax System several years ago, many other companies have tried to market similar looking track systems. In fact  most of the background manufacturers now sell a track system. Do not be fooled, there is only one Ontrax System and it is available only from us.

We often are approached with questions about a track that  was purchased from a competitor and is not working properly. Complaints such as carriers that  jam in corners, carriers that screech and make other loud noises when moving a background, carriers that break, companies that promise to ship immediately only to ship several weeks or months later, the list goes on and on.

We not only sell the track system we use it every day.  We are a working studio.  We know  the problems facing a studio.  We have been in the photo business for more than 30 years. We work to solve any problem facing  photographers using muslin or fabric backgrounds. We are here to help.

What separates the Ontrax System from the competitors?

The Ontrax System uses only the highest quality components. Our carriers are made from 100% virgin nylon, not plastic.  What is the  difference?  Nylon carriers will not wear out.  They glide through the track smoothly and quietly.  Plastic carriers will jam, break or the worst thing that we have been told, make so much noise that it actually scares babies. There are enough challenges to baby photography without having the background system scare the child.

We use 35% more aluminum in our track than the competitors. Why? The amount of aluminum is not too critical in the sections of straight track.  However, it is of the utmost importance when a bend is made to make the corner section. When the bend is made, there must be enough material (aluminum) available to flow around the corner and not make the walls of the track too thin. Without the proper amount of aluminum the walls of the track in the corner become so weak that carriers will jam in the corners. This is the most common complaint we hear from photographers that have purchased a track system from one our competitors.
